Oliver Till
Oliver Till is a conductor praised by The Times for "ambitious, intelligent programming’" He regularly conducts the London Medical Orchestra, Barnet Symphony Orchestra, and Queen’s Park Singers.
Ollie’s musical life started as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral. Having studied composition and piano at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Ollie gained his bachelor’s at the University of Manchester and received further training at Dartington, RNCM, London Sinfonietta Academy and the Järvi Academy, Estonia.
He founded The Asyla Ensemble in 2014 which has paired Charles Ives with The Nutcracker, Steve Reich with Rameau, Schubert with Berio, and Gershwin with Schoenberg. Other projects include a sold-out run of The Cunning Little Vixen at Grimeborn.
Other operas conducted include La bohème, the Da Ponte trilogy, Die Zauberflöte, Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, and The Mikado. Ollie has assisted many productions including Written on Skin, Lessons in Love and Violence, The Juniper Tree, Renard, Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro.
Recent highlights include a series of popular online orchestral workshops for amateur musicians, assisting orchestras in the UK, Malaysia, Germany and Russia, and the premiere of his orchestration of Janacek’s Říkadla (Nursery Rhymes) with a new English version by Benedict Pope.
As a pianist Ollie regularly accompanies vocal students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Other highlights include being an official accompanist at the North London Music Festival, working with Sir Thomas Allen at the Royal Opera House, and multiple performances of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring for piano duet for its centenary in 2013.
Dedicated to new music Ollie has conducted over 60 works by living composers including 40 world premières.
